On some occasions you might find that cheaper tickets are released after you’ve purchased your ticket. Usually, the general advice for passengers is that the earlier you book, the more likely you are to get a lower price and this refers to Advance tickets, which are released around 12 weeks before the journey date, and we have to await for the timetable from Network Rail in regards to any engineering work. Tickets bought before this will be flexible fares valid for use over multiple services. It’s this flexibility that is the reason for their higher price. Flexible fares are also refundable at the point of purchase, although this will be subject to the retailer’s terms and conditions.

On rare occasions, such as the result of a group booking amendment, additional Advance Purchase tickets may be released for specific trains at the price point they were originally sold at. As Advance Purchase tickets are non-refundable it is not possible to change ticket types of this nature for lower priced fares on the same journey.
